Triund – A short hike into the clouds

Triund is the most popular trek in Dharamshala – Mcleod Ganj region. It is a small hill in the Kangra district, and is part of Dharamkot. Triund is at the foot of the Dhauladhar ranges and is at a height of 2,828 m. This single day trek is suitable for beginners and for all age groups. The hike up to Triund is approximately 4 hours, and the length of this trek makes it suitable for a weekend break.
From Triund you can see the beautiful Kangra valley on one side, including the Dharamshala cricket stadium and the Dhauladhar mountain ranges on the other covered with Snow.

Getting there:
The trek will begin from Dharamkot. This is near Mcleod Ganj, 5 kms from Dharamshala. We meet at Gallu Devi Temple and from here a single goat trail leads you to Triund Hill, Illaqa and the renowned Indrahaar Pass. The trek beginning from Gallu Devi temple gets a bit tough, with steep gradient and curves.

Camping at Triund:
Triund is a large spread of lush green grass. We provide tents and sleeping bags at the campsite. Water is scarce and trekkers need to carry as much water as possible. The trek can be done in 1 day or you could camp for the night to watch the stunning panoramas during sunset and sunrise.

Seasons:
The best time to visit Triund is from March to July. The hill is inaccessible from December to February because of snow. The weather in Triund is cool and comfortable round the year, except for chilly winters.
