Make Dharmshala your base. There area is divided in various ways but mostly people know it as Macleod Ganj, Katwali Bazaar and Kacchari and Chungi. Then there is Ramnagar and Shamnagar ( No one there actually follows upper , middle and lower Dharmshala concept). Dharmshala is being upgraded as a smart city now.

  • Macleod Ganj and market
  • Namgyal Monastery
  • Dalai Lama’s temple complex
  • Tibetan Museum
  • Tibetian Library
  • Bhagsunath temple -very old Shiv temple
  • Bhagsu falls
  • Dharamkot
  • Truind
  • Dal Lake
  • Naddi
  • St. John’s Church in the wilderness is in Forsythganj 5 km below MacLeod Ganj. There is the cemetery where Lord Elgin was buried. He fell from his horse on the way to Bhagsu from Macleod Ganj.
  • Kotwali Bazaar ( named so as the revolutionaries were imprisoned here for some time) I am not able to locate the exact place.
  • War memorial
  • PG Degree College
  • Cricket stadium
  • Tea gardens
  • Kanal pathri temple
  • Kangra fort
  • Kangra temple ( Nagarkot/ Brijeshwari Devi)
  • Jwalaji temple
  • Chintpurni temple
  • Norbulinka Monastry at Dari
  • Vidhan Sabha of winter capital
  • Chinmaya Tapovan
  • Chamunda temple
  • Massror rock temple
  • Tatpani
  • Palampur Agricultural University
  • Tea gardens
  • Bajnath temple (old Shiv temple said to be of Pandav’s time)
  • Hanuman mandir at Civil Station and is run by policemen

The story is that the daughter of a Havaldar in police at Dharmshala was sick and he consecutively saw a dream of Hanumanji telling him to dig him out and his daughter would be ok. He did that along with his men and they brought the statue and kept it under a peepal tree ( sacred fig tree) in the police area near the local courts. People started visiting and with the money collected then temple expanded. Now it is a huge temple near the District Commissionaire. There was a time when we as kids would see prisoners brought there to attend the courts. With time the courts moved further up and the area became tehsaldar court.

  • Trekking you can cross the mountain rage ( Dhauladhar) and go to other side to Chamba
  • Hang gliding from billing near Palampur
  • Dhauladhar range of mountain as well as pine trees ( blue and long needles ones) and of course the Rhododendrons

If I remember anything else I will add.
